Fortuna Street is situated between Bécsi kapu and Hess András Square. During the Middle Ages the street was called Middle Street (Media platea) and later Saint Paul Street. At a later stage of the Turkish occupation the street is referred to as "Jenicseri agaszi jolu", meaning the road of the janissary agha. Following the re-occupation the street was for a long time called Wienner Gassen - Viennese Street. In 1784 the Fortuna Inn opened its doors at the corner facing Fortuna Alley and the street was soon named after it.
