Fortuna utca (Fortuna Street)

No. 3-9 Fortuna street, 1910sFortuna Street is situated between Bécsi kapu and Hess András Square. During the Middle Ages the street was called Middle Street (Media platea) and later Saint Paul Street. At a later stage of the Turkish occupation the street is referred to as "Jenicseri agaszi jolu", meaning the road of the janissary agha. Following the re-occupation the street was for a long time called Wienner Gassen - Viennese Street. In 1784 the Fortuna Inn opened its doors at the corner facing Fortuna Alley and the street was soon named after it.
