Bécsi kapu tér, the Kazinczy Memorial Fountain

The Kazinczy memorial fountainThe composition is the artwork of Béla Pásztor. It was erected in 1936 to commemorate the centenary of the death of Ferencz Kazinczy's (1759-1831), who made an important and prominent contribution to Hungarian literature. The statue is in neo-Classical style and shows a woman's figure holding a candle in her right hand. The pedestal is a simple limestone block which functions as a running fountain. On the front there is a brass profile portrait medaillon of the writer. The inscription reads: IN MEMORY OF FERENCZ KAZINCZY - 1831-1931.
